<image:title>Meet the team - Paul - founder/owner</image:title>
<image:caption>George & friends was founded in September 2015 by Paul Ahmet-Thomas, who swapped a successful career in the kitchen with a much more rewarding life looking after dogs. Paul grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, in a family of animal lovers and remembers always being surrounded by animals of one kind or another. Trips to the beach with the family’s pack of dogs were particularly memorable and put him in good stead for a career working with dogs. Paul moved permanently to the UK in 2004 and set about creating a life for himself here. He missed being around animals though, and his desire to have a dog of his own was particularly strong. After many years of saying ‘if only’ and stalking mini-Dachshunds on the streets of London, Paul & his ex-husband decided that they were ready to become pawrents and started looking for a KC assured breeder. And so, it was that in November 2014, George came into their lives and changed everything for the better. George & friends was borne out of a desire for Paul to spend everyday with George. He literally changed Paul’s life and G&F is a testament to how he managed to bring people & furiends together.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We sadly lost George on the 29th of June 2025. He died unexpectantly and the shock of losing him so suddenly has been profound. He had a larger than life personality and his loss has been felt by everyone who knew and loved him. The legacy he created is just incredible and his spirit lives on in all the wonderful furiendships he formed. We miss you George and continue to honour your memory everyday.</image:caption>

<image:title>Meet the team - Winston - The Acting CEO</image:title>
<image:caption>Winston, George’s side kick/assistant, joined our family unexpectedly in the summer of 2018, as he was looking for a new home and we fell in love with him immediately. He is an absolute sweetheart despite the tough start he had in life and has become an integral part of our family. He’s fun-loving, lovable, cute and loves being part of the team.</image:caption>

<image:title>How it works - First steps</image:title>
<image:caption>Once you have contacted us, we will arrange an appointment to meet both you & your puppy/dog. We do not take bookings for dogs we haven’t met before. It’s very important for us to assess the suitability & compatibility of your dog with our current group of dogs before we commit to looking after them. We won’t look after any dog that has a history of aggression or any form of behaviour that makes it a threat to other dogs or members of the public. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (new changes May 2014) makes it quite clear that whoever is looking after a dog is responsible for its behaviour, which means that we are responsible for all dogs in our care and are therefore liable to prosecution should anything go wrong. We also require you to complete a registration form before any bookings are undertaken. All dogs we look after must be fully-vaccinated.</image:caption>

<image:title>How it works - first session</image:title>
<image:caption>The first session with us is used as an assessment where we get to know your dog and to understand if there are any areas of their behaviour that need to be worked on ie pulling on a lead, lack of recall, scavenging etc. This assessment needs to be completed before any dog is taken on full-time, as not all dogs are suited to group day care and we need to establish if they are. We want day care to not only be a fun environment for them, but one in which they will learn and become the best dogs they can be.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Quite frankly, Paul, George and Winston are our extended family. Paul has made absolutely every effort to boost the confidence of our extremely nervous rescue dog Boots and the different we see in him when he is back from daycare is stark. We will be forever touched at how much effort Paul makes to celebrate all his dogs birthdays with the most pawesome of pawties. We are extremely safety conscious and would trust no one else with our house keys.”</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - David & Rachael, Saffi’s pawrents</image:title>
<image:caption>“As regular users of George & friends, we are incredibly appreciative of the fantastic, reliable and thoughtful service Paul provides. From the moment he, George and the lovely Winston arrive each day, it’s clear that Saffi is thinking “today is going to be a great day!” Paul has created a caring and fun environment for each dog under his care, the individual birthday parties for each of the dogs are just one example of this. It’s a testament to Paul and his day care that we wouldn’t leave our dog with anyone else, honestly nowhere else competes (and yes, we had tried other day cares before this!). The one downside is that Saffi often wants to stay with Paul and her friends when it’s time to come home - we now don’t take it personally, it rather just sums up what a great place George and friends is!”</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - Annelies, Jack's Pawrent</image:title>
<image:caption>“Leaving my precious puppy Jack with George and Friends reminds me of how I felt when I used to leave my kids at nursery…Absolute confidence that he is in the best hands coupled with an acute sense of ‘He could at least pretend that he’s going to miss me!’. The care, affection and attention that Paul has for each and every dog is beyond words and Jack adores him right back. I feel very lucky as a new dog owner to have found such amazing day care right on my doorstep.”</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - Richard & Gaia, Twig's pawrents</image:title>
<image:caption>“Paul and Anya have been looking after Twig, our two-year-old Cocker Spaniel, every week for over a year. He gets so excited when Anya comes to the door to pick him up it’s pretty obvious he has an amazing time. It’s fantastic to see videos of him running, swimming, rolling in the mud and eating doggy birthday cake each week, and he always comes home totally exhausted. After trying out a couple of other local dog walkers and daycare places, we wouldn’t want anyone else to look after him. And it seems that, when we meet George and Friends in the Downs on the way home from school, our daughter sees herself as part of the pack too!”</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - Aisling & Wayde, Barefoot's pawrents</image:title>
<image:caption>"We found out about George and Friends through a neighbour and Barefoot, our greyhound has been going out with Paul for around two years now. Paul, George and Winston are part of our pack now and Barefoot watches from the window for his pickup to go out and join his friends – he loves his days out with them. And for us - We feel at ease knowing Barefoot is with Paul and having a great time. Over the years he has helped us with training Barefoot and making him feel at ease with other dogs. The Instagram update videos are a great way of keeping in touch from your work desk especially the birthday pawties."</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - Matthew, Pratchett's pawrent</image:title>
<image:caption>“Pratchett is a very nervous rescue dog, that lacked socialisation with dogs and people. For the first couple years he has been scared of being around other dogs and even more with people and so he had been turned away from other dog walking companies. Which had me doubt he would improve, and left me not sure of how to proceed. Just a month before I met Paul, Pratchett had been hit by a cyclist and as a result he retreated backwards from the slow improve we had made. However, after meeting Paul and explaining Pratchetts situation, Paul was positive and enthusiastic about taking him on. After just a couple weeks, the improvement in Pratchett was amazing. His exposure to a group of diverse dogs and personalities, with the extreme care given by Paul and Anya - at George and Friends, really gave him his confidence to grow and now he is like a different dog. He openly greets dogs, is more trusting of people and all together a clearly happier boy. I love seeing daily videos of Pratchett with George and Friends and would recommend this great dog daycare to anyone after a charming little social group.”</image:caption>

<image:title>from our happy 'pawrents' - Craig & Dario, Bruno's Pawrents</image:title>
<image:caption>“Bruno has been a regular with George and friends since he was just a tiny puppy. Paul has taken such amazing care of him since the beginning and undoubtedly had a real impact on how he has grown up into the happy dog he is today. From summer swims in Hackney Marshes to rainy walks in the cemetery, Bruno is kept so well entertained every time and is always super excited to see Paul in the morning. The effort that Paul puts in the caring for all the doggies, with birthday treats and much more besides, is awesome. We can even see from Instagram how much extra swag Bruno now has during his jaunts with the gang! We would recommend Paul and George & friends without hesitation - thank you!”</image:caption>
